Cilcare at IEB 2026: Advancing our understanding of hearing disorders

IEB Inner ear biology Workshop

The Inner Ear Biology (IEB) workshop brings together researchers from across the inner ear and auditory science community to explore the mechanisms underlying hearing and hearing disorders. This year in Utrecht, Cilcare is proud to support the event as a sponsor and to contribute to the scientific program with four posters covering complementary aspects of auditory research.

Our contributions span 3D bioprinting in vitro model, cochlear inflammation, synaptopathy and the link between systemic autoimmunity and hearing loss, reflecting the breadth of Cilcare’s research in auditory science.

3D bioprinting for inner ear drug delivery

Gabin Junior Endjeu Tchouassi

As part of INEAR3D, a collaborative project supported by the University of Montpellier and its Pôle Universitaire d’Innovation (PEI) and conducted in partnership with the Institut Charles Gerhardt de Montpellier (ICGM), Cilcare is developing a 3D in vitro model of the round window membrane using bioprinting technologies. The model aims to reproduce key features of the membrane and provide a human-relevant platform to study drug diffusion and support the development of new inner ear delivery strategies.

Cochlear inflammation and hearing loss

This study compares cochlear immune responses across different models of hearing loss and inflammation, highlighting differences in macrophage responses and inflammatory pathways depending on the nature of the injury.

Rheumatoid arthritis and hearing loss: investigating the immune connection

Louis-Antoine Milazzo

This study develops a murine model linking rheumatoid arthritis and sensorineural hearing loss and provides initial evidence of immune cell alterations within the cochlea, offering a new framework to investigate the mechanisms linking systemic autoimmunity and auditory dysfunction.

From transient hearing loss to cochlear synaptopathy

Marianne Aincy, PhD

This study compares different noise exposure paradigms to establish preclinical models of transient hearing loss and cochlear synaptopathy. The results support their use for evaluating potential otoprotective and regenerative therapies targeting cochlear synapses.
